THE MAPC 2008 CONFERENCE

Following registration on Wednesday, the gallery walk in downtown Fargo will end at the historic Fargo Theatre (http://www.fargotheatre.org/).  We are honored to have the keynote address delivered at the opening of the conference on Wednesday evening by internationally renowned artist, Jaune Quick-to-See Smith, an engaging and inspiring speaker whose work discusses today’s tribal politics, human rights, and environmental issues.

Following our keynote address, The “MAPC 2008 Outstanding Printmaker Award” will be presented to Clare Romano, noted artist, author, and teacher. Romano is professor emerita at Pratt Institute and teaches at Pratt’s summer program in Venice. Her continued research in collagraph and richly colored and luminous landscapes have won her worldwide acclaim. Romano and John Ross co-authored The Complete Printmaker, which has been called by many the definitive textbook on printmaking.

In addition to an exciting lineup of panel discussions and technical demonstrations during the conference, Jaune Quick-to-See Smith (www.unm.edu/~tamarind/editions/jqts-img.html) and Santiago Cucullu (www.perryrubenstein.com/artists/santiago-cucullu/) will edition. Smith will collaborate with Kim Fink of Sequoia Press/UND and Cucullu with Cole Rogers of Highpoint Center for Printmaking. Shuttle services will be provided to and from major conference events.

Special evening events continue on Thursday with the second evening of the gallery walk followed by dinner at Monte’s Restaurant highlighting the PEARS program. A special showing of the movie “Fargo” at the Fargo Theatre will close the evening’s events.

Friday evening you may choose from bowling at All Star Lanes in Moorhead or dancing at the Wood Chipper’s Ball at Avalon Center in Fargo (http://www.fargoavalon.com/). As an added feature on Saturday and Sunday afternoons the Fargo-Moorhead Visual Artists organization will be having their annual ‘Studio Crawl’ providing you an opportunity to visit over thirty area artists at work in their primary studio spaces (http://www.fmva.us/studiocrawl.html).

We invite you to participate in the ‘Open Portfolio’ sessions on Saturday evening at the host hotel to share with fellow members and area collectors the depth of content and specialized technique used in making your print work, and for representatives of specialized presses and print organizations to promote work produced in their studios.
